  • Terence Blanchard (HonDMA '17)

    World-renowned trumpeter, composer, band leader and Blue Note recording artist, Terence Blanchard (HonDMA ’17) launched his career in 1980, joining the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, then Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. He has composed more than forty film scores and performed on more than fifty.

  • Anthony Roth Costanzo
    (MM '08, HonDMA ’22)

    Anthony Roth Costanzo (MM ’08, HonDMA ’22) is a critically-acclaimed countertenor who performs in opera, concert, recital, film and on Broadway, most recently in title roles with the Los Angeles Opera, the Finnish National Opera, and with the Berlin Philharmonic.

  • Glenn Dicterow

    Violinist Glenn Dicterow is one of the prominent American concert artists of his generation. He was concert master of the New York Philharmonic for 34 years, and is the Chair of the MSM Orchestra Performance program.

  • Peter Duchin

    Peter Duchin is a legendary bandleader and American pianist, the son of bandleader Eddy Duchin. He has served on the boards of Carnegie Hall, the American Ballet Theatre, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

  • Thomas Hampson
    (HonDMA ’09)

    Thomas Hampson (HonDMA ’09) is one of America’s leading lyric baritones, a sought-after classical singer who appears world-wide in major opera houses and concert halls, and has made over 170 recordings.

  • Stefon Harris
    (BM ’95, MM ’97)

    Stefon Harris is a musician, composer, educator who was named “one of the most important artists in jazz” by the LA Times. He is a multi-Grammy Award nominee, eight-time Jazz Journalist Association award-winner, and was named leading vibraphonist in the 65th annual DownBeat Critics’ Poll. In July 2017, he joined MSM as Associate Dean and Director of Jazz Arts.

  • Marta Istomin (HonDMA ’05), President Emerita

    Marta Istomin was President of of Manhattan School of Music from 1992 until her retirement in 2005. She has six honorary degrees, and highest cultural honors from Puerto Rico, Spain, France, and Germany.

  • Bernard Labadie
    (HonDMA '18)

    One of the world’s leading conductors of the Baroque and Classical repetoire, Mr. Labadie founded Les Violons Du Roy and was their Music Director for three decades. He regularly guest conducts major North American orchestras, including the NY Philharmonic, LA Philharmonic, and the Chicago Symphony.

  • Lang Lang
    (HonDMA ’12)

    The Chinese-born concert pianist plays to sold-out houses around the world, and his recordings top classical charts. His embrace of new technology, innovation, and showmanship, is helping bring classical music to new audiences. Lang Lang is also an educator, philanthropist, and a U.N. Messenger for Peace.

  • Bebe Neuwirth
    (HonDMA '15)

    The actress, singer and dancer made her Broadway debut in A Chorus Line in 1980, winning a Tony for Best Featured Actress in Sweet Charity in 1986, and a Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Leading Actress in Chicago, in 1996. Ms. Neuwirth won two Emmy awards for Outstanding Supportive Actress in 1990 and 1991 for her role in Cheers.

  • Leonard Slatkin
    (HonDMA '13)

    The internationally-acclaimed conductor was most recently Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) for a decade, and is currently Directeur Musical Honoraire with the Orchestre National de Lyon (ONL) and a guest conductor with major orchestras. His latest book is Leading Tones: Reflections on Music, Musicians, and the Music Industry .

  • Melissa Wegner (MM '05)

    As Executive Director of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and the Laffont Competition, Melissa Wegner (MM ’05) is responsible for identifying, awarding, and developing the world’s most promising operatic talent.

  • Pinchas Zukerman
    (HonDMA ’93)

    Pinchas Zukerman is a violinist, violist, and conductor, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest violinists of the second half of the 20th century. He accepts gifted violinists and violists into his Pichas Zukerman Performance Program at MSM.
